- Loud cheers are continued to be heard while the Olympic Games in Beijing are well under way.

2. Use a dependent clause:

- After all the hard work and preparation, the Olympic Games in Beijing are well under way.

3. Use an independent clause:

- The Olympic Games in Beijing are well under way and all the participating Canadian Athletes are staying in Beijing.

Dave: #s 2 and 3 are very good. #1 is not a phrase, and it is also a very awkward construction;-)
