1. Use a phrase
Thanksgiving can signal the start of winter, or the approach of ski season.
2. Use a dependent clause
With temperatures falling below zero, Thanksgiving can signal the start of winter.
3. Use an independent clause
Thanksgiving can signal the start of winter, and it's a good time to put winter tires on your car.
Iannou: #1--yes, but no comma before a phrase; #2--that's another phrase (no verb); #3--good.
I did have my doubts about #2. If I understand correctly, "temperatures falling" is the object of "with" in my example.
2. Use a dependent clause
Thanksgiving can signal the start of winter, so it's a good time to put winter tires on your car.
Iannou: Yes and yes!
